Could the National Debt be too small?

Debt payoff chart

Life After Debt a secret government report from 2000 on the “crisis” that might occur if the US paid off it’s debt.

A very interesting story with comment from a Clinton era economist on the situation after that term had ended.

Could it really be bad to pay off the debt or does this just highlight a problem with economic onion layers?

Would you like to see two Happy Hours each month?

We’re looking for a time and place to have a second Happy Hour, most likely in East Nashville and still on a weekday after work.

Please click “Leave a Comment” if you have any input on a day of the week or location that you think would be good for LOTR.

Thanks

Does China still owe people for bonds it sold prior to 1939?

As a follow up to last weeks piece by the Blue Collar Muse he is hosting a call in show – here’s the scoop:

As some of you may have been following, I’ve been posting about China’s own real bond default that is costing US citizens $750 billion and the rest of the world trillions more.
The lady fighting this fight is Jonna Bianco, founder of the American Bondholders Foundation. She will be my guest tonight at 8PM Central time on TalkShoe.

Please join us there and find out not only another weapon China is using against us but how it can be turned to our advantage.

Call in to Phone Number: (724) 444-7444 and use Call ID: 95920 to access the call. You can also listen from your computer at this link and participate there in chat, too.

Economic warfare

The Blue Collar Muse covers a twist in the debt/credit/financial rattling of sabres:

http://bluecollarmuse.com/2011/08/17/a-us-tactical-advantage-in-an-economic-war-with-china/

Aside from the very interesting twist in debt holdings that BCM provides (you’ve gotta follow the link) there is also this reminder from a while back.

18 months ago The New York Post reported that two and a half years ago,

… the Pentagon held its first-ever economic-warfare war game, with China as the putative opponent and with economists and bankers (including from UBS) helping out.

Details of what unfolded are still classified. However, sources told Fox Business News that the scenario played out as planned. That was the good news.

The bad news is that China won.

Paul Krugman and Space Aliens from the Planet Keynes

Via Robert Murphy and CNN – Fareed Zakaria talks about Keynes’ concept of paying people to dig holes and then fill them back in.

Is that what they mean when they say Shovel Ready?

What do you think about infrastructure spending and was World War Two an economic savior?  We have had two multi-trillion dollar wars going on for years, why is our economy still in shambles?

S & P Happy Hour

S&P stands for Suds and Pizza, Mafiaoza’s has plenty of both and their menu is rated AAA!  Enjoy Two-for-One beer (suds) all night.

So join us on August 18th, 5:30 – 9:30

Stop in for a little while, or spend a couple of hours with your new friends

This month we’ll chat about the S&P rating and whether the US can switch to a more Austrian philosophy as well as other issues on economic freedom.  Is being “poor” going to now be Standard?

Just ask the hostess where Liberty on the Rocks section is.
